Adjustments to a (CSS) Grid

If a change needs to be made to a grid after it has been built and populated with data) e.g. reducing number of columns by 2 and this change then throws off the rest of the grid, is it better to re-do the grid altogether?

I ask because in order to change it, it then required and awful lot of adjustments to the grid contents and their placements to make it look as you want it to.

This is a general question…

Create two different classes with different styles and apply them as needed.

You can dynamically update the classes along with any dynamic changes made in JS to the DOM structure (the page layout).
