trusting AIs with creating secure servers and database is not a great idea

I use sometimes LLM, it’s never about problem solving, it’s often about “take this, format it this other way”, and the result is never 100% ok

so yeah, developers are still needed

Thanks for your reply

So far, genAI has impacted my work as a developer in two significant ways:

  • People want to talk to me about genAI and LLMs all the time.
  • I keep getting asked to add “AI” based features to our application, even when I tell stakeholders that it would be cheaper and more deterministic to just add a traditional endpoint to our internal API.

The sad part is the person’s take away from all that, was just not to post their projects to X. Because that was clearly the main problem.

The people that are pushing the “replace all programmers” narrative all have a strong vested interest. Sure, it could happen some day, and we could have colonies on Mars and flying cars. I don’t see that happening in the foreseeable future.

Programmers are not assembly line workers getting replaced by automation. There is a little more to it than just “assembling parts”.

I’m sure AI can have an impact on the job market, but so do lots of things. Like we had a pandemic and companies just started hiring anything and everything. When that “bubble” burst, it cost a lot of people their jobs, and it made the barrier to entry higher again.
