The honest answer is I’m not completely sure. I’m pretty confident that it’s lens flare, but I don’t know for sure why the flared image is reflected.
My best guess is that because the rays in the flare take a different path to the rest of the image, they must cross over one extra time (or one fewer) and so are inverted.
That was also my first digital camera and when I started to get more interested in photography generally. These seem to be mostly on one of the bridges across the river. I was very influenced by street photography.
I really like the atmosphere in this photo. The winter setting and the pier give it a timeless feel, and it’s interesting to see how street photography can capture so much character in an ordinary place. Your dad clearly had a great eye for finding memorable moments.
That would be great! I’d definitely enjoy seeing more of his work, especially if he has more photos from that period. Older street photography has such a unique character to it, and it’s always interesting to see how people captured everyday life before everything became digital.
That’s very cool. Do you think the circle was traced out by the bit of grass? I’m struggling to see how that happens without the wind blowing it all away.
