Never in a million years did I think that Myspace would be coming back after all this time. But I think it is a smart move on the current brand owners to do this relaunch.
This announcement is definitely tugging on the nostalgia heart strings for millennials.
If you aren’t familiar with Myspace, it was basically the OG social media platform in the early 2000s before Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc.
I hope when they do relaunch it, they keep everything pretty much the same because that is what made it special in the first place. All of the personalization and such was fun.
Did you have a Myspace back in the day? Are you going to use it again after the relaunch?
I’m not going to use it. Sure is interesting though. The times sure are doing a good job of convincing me that practicing TurboC for MS-DOS is a good move.
If AOL and AOL Instant Messager come back, which I only know from Emily is Away, I’ll unironically set up a Windows XP virtual machine and read a manual for it.
I miss when we had the option of IM services – AOL, ICQ, MSN Messenger… I’ve used all three of them. That and IRC.
I can’t say I ever used MySpace, but I’m admittedly intrigued by it potentially coming back. xD Could be interesting!
(And yes, I hear you on the old MS-DOS software! I still have my old Windows 98 installer CD, and keep a virtualbox version of Windows 98, installed from that CD, on hand!)
Yeah, I think once this is launched a bunch of people might signup out of curiosity and nostalgia. But I wouldn’t be surprised if after a few months, things just die off and only a few remain.
I don’t think it will get to the heights of tiktok and instagram and have staying power.
It might just end up being a fun little throwback to a simpler time and then folks will move onto the next thing.
