Basic JavaScript - Profile Lookup

Tell us what’s happening:

As near as I can tell, this code should be able to work. I am unable to figure out why it will not return the content of the contacts array as instructed; I have referred to multiple references and tried a couple of different approaches, but it seems like I’ve made a mistake that I can’t detect.

Your code so far

// Setup
const contacts = [
  {
    firstName: "Akira",
    lastName: "Laine",
    number: "0543236543",
    likes: ["Pizza", "Coding", "Brownie Points"],
  },
  {
    firstName: "Harry",
    lastName: "Potter",
    number: "0994372684",
    likes: ["Hogwarts", "Magic", "Hagrid"],
  },
  {
    firstName: "Sherlock",
    lastName: "Holmes",
    number: "0487345643",
    likes: ["Intriguing Cases", "Violin"],
  },
  {
    firstName: "Kristian",
    lastName: "Vos",
    number: "unknown",
    likes: ["JavaScript", "Gaming", "Foxes"],
  },
];

function lookUpProfile(name, prop) {
  // Only change code below this line
  for (let i = 0; i < contacts.length; i++) {
    if (contacts[i].firstName === name ) {
      if (prop in contacts[i]) {
        return contacts[i][prop];
      }
      else {  return "No such property"; }
    }
  else { return "No such contact" } ;
  }
  // Only change code above this line
}

lookUpProfile("Akira", "likes");

Challenge: Basic JavaScript - Profile Lookup

Link to the challenge:

I indented your code more properly, so you can see where you are returning No such contact. Remember, when ever a return statement is executed, the function immediately exits the function regardless if a for loop or other loop has completed.

function lookUpProfile(name, prop) {
  // Only change code below this line
  for (let i = 0; i < contacts.length; i++) {
    if (contacts[i].firstName === name ) {
      if (prop in contacts[i]) {
        return contacts[i][prop];
      } else {
        return "No such property";
      }
    } else {
      return "No such contact"
    }
  }
  // Only change code above this line
}

I was able to correct the code and got it working. Sometimes I feel like I have to re-learn everything every time I sit down to code.
