Build a Caesar Cipher - Step 16

Tell us what’s happening:

Step 16, I have
if not isinstance(shift, int):
return “Shift must be an integer value.”
but it says
Your if statement should use True as its condition.
What am I doing wrong?

Your code so far

# User Editable Region

def caesar(text, shift) -> str:
    if not isinstance(shift, int):
        return "Shift must be an integer value."

# User Editable Region

    alphabet = 'abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz'
    shifted_alphabet = alphabet[shift:] + alphabet[:shift]
    translation_table = str.maketrans(alphabet + alphabet.upper(), shifted_alphabet + shifted_alphabet.upper())
    return text.translate(translation_table)

encrypted_text = caesar('freeCodeCamp', 3)
print(encrypted_text)

Build a Caesar Cipher - Step 16

Hi

You are not asked to change your function.

For the if statement the instructions are:

At the beginning of your function body, create an if statement. For now, use True as the condition,

Your return statement is correct.

I suggest you reset the step and only change what is asked for

Thanks, I sometimes get a bit ahead of myself. I’ve finished the caesar cipher now.
