Build an RPG Character - Build an RPG Character

Tell us what’s happening:

I don’t seem to know how to do steps 18 and 19.

18:

create_character(‘ren’, 4, 2, 1) should return ren\nSTR ●●●●○○○○○○\nINT ●●○○○○○○○○\nCHA ●○○○○○○○○○.

19:

When create_character is called with valid values it should output the character stats as required.

Please guide me and give me hints to try and finish this lab.

Your code so far

full_dot = '●'
empty_dot = '○'

def create_character(name, strength, intelligence, charisma):
    if not isinstance(name, str):
        return "The character name should be a string"
    elif len(name) == 0:
        return "The character should have a name"
    elif len(name) > 10:
        return "The character name is too long"
    elif " " in name:
        return "The character name should not contain spaces"

    stats = [strength, intelligence, charisma]

    if not all(isinstance(stat, int) for stat in stats):
        return "All stats should be integers"

    for stat in stats:
        if stat < 1:
            return "All stats should be no less than 1"

    for stat in stats:
        if stat > 4:
            return "All stats should be no more than 4"
    if strength + intelligence + charisma != 7:
        return "The character should start with 7 points"

Welcome back @Vishruth_King,

Tests #18 and 19 are related. Check out User Story #5 to see how to create the final string that produces the full and empty dots for the parameter stats.

Happy coding

Ok thank you very much

Wait what do you mean user story 5? How do I get there?

Under the heading “User Stories:” in the instructions, this is #5:

If all values pass the verification, the function should return a string with four lines:

  • the first line should contain the character name
  • lines 2-4 should start with the stat abbreviation, STR, INT or CHA (in this order), then a space, and then a number of full dots () equal to the value of the stat, and a number of empty dots () to reach 10. Example: if the value of strength is 3 there must be 3 full dots followed by 7 empty dots. The dots are given in the editor.

Here’s the string that should be returned by create_character('ren', 4, 2, 1):

ren
STR ●●●●○○○○○○
INT ●●○○○○○○○○
CHA ●○○○○○○○○○
