Build an RPG Character - Build an RPG Character

Tell us what’s happening:

Hey guys! I have every story correct besides stories 18 and 19. I am wondering if I have anything wrong with my code that is stopping me from doing it.

Your code so far

full_dot = '●'
empty_dot = '○'
def create_character(name,strength,intelligence,charisma):
    if not isinstance(name,str):
        return("The character name should be a string")
    if len(name) > 10:
        return('The character name is too long')
    if name == '':
        return('The character should have a name')
    if ' ' in name:
        return('The character name should not contain spaces')
    if not isinstance(strength,int) or not isinstance(intelligence,int) or not isinstance(charisma,int):
        return('All stats should be integers')
    if strength < 1 or intelligence < 1 or charisma < 1:
        return('All stats should be no less than 1')
    if strength > 4 or intelligence > 4 or charisma > 4:
        return('All stats should be no more than 4')
    if strength + intelligence + charisma != 7:
        return('The character should start with 7 points')

print('create_character("ren", 4, 2, 1)')

Hi @flaredoescoding,

You will need to implement User Story #5 to pass Tests #18 and 19.

Happy coding

this is story 5, correct?: 5. When create_character is called with a first argument that is not an empty string, it should not return The character should have a name.

Wait nvm I thought of test 5 lol

No. That’s Test #5. This is User Story #5:

If all values pass the verification, the function should return a string with four lines:

  • the first line should contain the character name
  • lines 2-4 should start with the stat abbreviation, STR, INT or CHA (in this order), then a space, and then a number of full dots () equal to the value of the stat, and a number of empty dots () to reach 10. Example: if the value of strength is 3 there must be 3 full dots followed by 7 empty dots. The dots are given in the editor.

Here’s the string that should be returned by create_character('ren', 4, 2, 1):

ren
STR ●●●●○○○○○○
INT ●●○○○○○○○○
CHA ●○○○○○○○○○

Ah, gotcha. Thanks for the help!

Also, is there a specific theory that would help with this part?

you can review how to work with strings, but you mostly have to figure out how to compose the output based on input
