Build an SQL Reference Object - Build an SQL Reference Object

Tell us what’s happening:

I am running the workshop locally with vscode and Docker on Windows. Once I have started it with CoadRoad: Start the project loads successfully, but the folder structure shown in the terminal does not look correct. It should show something like camper: /project $, but mine says camper@fa279d389224:/workspace/project $. As a result the very first step fails. Instructions say to restart the terminal which I have done many times and I have recreated the project many times without success. It is similar to this issue Build an SQL Reference Object - Build an SQL Reference Object which was not resolved as the user completed the project in Codespaces.

Your code so far

Your browser information:

User Agent is: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/144.0.0.0 Safari/537.36

Challenge Information:

Build an SQL Reference Object - Build an SQL Reference Object

Can you show the entire window please?

Please see below. Somehow the first test was set to passed when I reset. Note the prompt in the terminal, I have closed and opened a new terminal multiple times, and reset multiple times.

Here is what it looks like after trying to complete the next task:

I suspect that something is going wrong when CodeRoad starts up, so that the correct environment folders are not being created? Incidentally, I have just tried to start the Periodic Table Database certification project and I get the same issue - the prompt in the terminal is incorrect.

Many thanks in advance!

my suggestion is to start the tutorial setup from scratch but this time you will need to create a brand new directory with a name you have not used before (this is important).

When you get to the point you are asked about the URL, enter it and let the program complete in full. (nothing should be blinking or rotating or any other indicator that it is running). At some point you will be shown a Start a button on the bottom right side of the coderoad screen. Click it once. Wait.
if your terminal is still showing the green camper name close that terminal and open a new one.

I hope this works for you. But I plan to also link some additional instructions that you will need to run on windows too so stay tune for that (i need to find them on the forum first)

Edit: please read the linked posts

Hi hbar1st,

I have tried your recommended steps. First I tried creating a new directory and cloned freeCodeCamp/rdb-alpha into it, followed all the instructions but I have the same problem. I then tried your 7 steps to copy my rdb-alpha directory to rdb-alpha1, and all the docker commands to remove images and containers, and set up a new project, followed all the instructions again, but I get the same result. The prompt in the terminal is still the green camper@…:/workspace/project $ prompt. See screenshot below. Is there anything else you can suggest?

I am reluctant to use the Codespaces option, because it is difficult to complete the entire workshop in one sitting, and I have not been able to get the completed checkbox for any workshop if I have restarted. In fact I have completed this workshop in Codespaces, but could not get the checkbox after trying many different options. So, if you do not have any further suggestions about running locally, perhaps you have something that would help me to get my Codespaces checked as completed?

Many thanks for your help!

well since you asked, i have some thoughts here…

1- you’ve gone to a lot of trouble for a little checkmark! Why not just ignore it and move on? The learning is the real goal not the checkmark.

2- w.r.t. codespaces, what has worked for others is to make sure that the token was filled in at the start (as per whatever the instructions said to do), that the last step was completed (i can’t remember if there is a final button presented but that last button should be clicked), and then after waiting some time (different users report different time lapses. For me about 10 minutes, for others, hours), you go back into your fCC curriculum page and refresh the page. This then should show the checkmark.

3- for a local install, the steps matter a lot. Even one missed step may result in a broken environment. The only thing I can suggest is to join the freecodecamp discord server and get some direct help from me if we happen to be online at the same time. (so basically I’ll take you thru the steps, one by one, while confirming the output of each step as you go)

Thanks Hanna. I have joined the freecodecamp discord and sent you a message. Let me know when you are online and we can try this together. I am in Australia (east coast) so our times will not coincide often!

Hi Hanna,

Just to update you, I used Codespaces to complete this, and did it in one sitting successfully. I would still like to resolve the issue in my local VS Code/Docker settings, so I’ll wait for you to become available. Thanks!

Hi, I am sorry, I didn’t get your ping. I don’t accept DMs so if that was what you sent I would have ignored it. To ping on discord you have to use @hbar1st in a message on the campfire channel or find my nickname which is Hana-banana there. Today is not a good day though as I have a power outage.
