Hi! I have a degree in Civil Engineering, but i really need a change in what i do every day. I always liked computers and logic, but i’m new to Programming.
I have started with a course from Udemy, in Java, learning and doing the exercises. I’m now a little stuck, because i know that i must build something in order to learn.
Can anyone help me, maybe with examples of simple aplications?
Every positive feedback is welcome!
Thanks, and i hope i could know many of you from this community
Hello! @Inggenio
Congratulations! first on learning something new from ur actual profession. I am an Undergrad (in CS) right now and I don’t have so many things to say, as I lack practical experience.
Anyways, It is better to understand what you really like. Which means… what interests you the most in this field? It is very important to find your WHY?. As they say, When you find your why, You find your way!
like, Do you want a change of career or just want to learn about computers and programming? OR you have interest in Web dev, your programming language changes accordingly.
We have so many Courses on fCC, choose your WHY and try out on them… also,
here are some useful links:
Have a good day!
PS: Excuse me if I am wrong somewhere.
Hello!
You came to the right site and at the right moment.
fCC just introduced new versions of their JavaScript and Python courses and both are interactive and project-based. You will learn the ropes by building the project-apps and finish the segments with an app you have to build mostly by yourself.
I recommend you to take both courses. Combine the JavaScript with the Responsive Web Design class and you have the basics for web development. Python can be used for web development, but also for scripting, machine learning and data science to name a few.
If you combine both with CS basics (for example Harvard CS50 like jyothsnal6333 suggested) that will give you solid basic knowledge to get started.
You will find active developers like myself volunteering here, even some that know the hiring process in and out, you can ask how to best prepare for the job hunt. Also what to avoid: The market is currently flooded with under-skilled bootcamp graduates wasting senior and staff engineer time. Here you can find out how to stick out from the crowd.
