Changing background to red

Tell us what’s happening:

Your code so far

  :root {
    --red-color: red;
  .red-box {
    background: var(--red-color, red);
    height: 200px;
<div class="red-box"></div>

Your browser information:

User Agent is: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/75.0.3770.142 Safari/537.36.

Link to the challenge:

Set the background to red before the background is set with the variable. They left a space in the code for you.

for browsers that don’t support variables you need a rule that doesn’t use variables, separate from the one already there

I am struggling to understand what they are wanting me to do. I have tried background-color: red; but it does not work. Any thoughts?

In the challenge they are asking you to change the background to red, not background-color.
