CodeRoad Keeps Opening Previous Completed Workshop

Tell us what’s happening:

Hello,

I am working through the Relational Databases course using the Local Setup method, and I am having trouble starting the workshop “Build a Database of Video Game Characters.”

On September 30, 2026, I successfully completed the previous workshop, “Build a Boilerplate in Relational Database,” which appears in CodeRoad as “Learn Bash by Building a Boilerplate.”

On October 1, 2026, I followed the Local Setup instructions again from the beginning to start “Build a Database of Video Game Characters.” I:

  1. Cloned the rdb-alpha repository.

  2. Opened it in VS Code.

  3. Added my freeCodeCamp user token to the Dockerfile as instructed.

  4. Used Dev Containers: Rebuild and Reopen in Container.

  5. Ran CodeRoad: Start from the VS Code Command Palette.

  6. Selected Start New Tutorial and the URL tab.

  7. Entered the course URL for “Build a Database of Video Game Characters.”

  8. Clicked Start.

However, CodeRoad still opens the previous completed workshop and displays:

Learn Bash by Building a Boilerplate
Congratulations on completing “Learn Bash by Building a Boilerplate”!
You’ve reached the end of the road…

I also tried clearing CodeRoad’s stored data:

rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/Code/User/globalStorage/coderoad.coderoad

and:

rm -rf ~/.config/CodeRoad

I then used Developer: Reload Window in VS Code and repeated the Local Setup process, but I still get the same result.

My system information:

  • macOS: 15.6.1

  • VS Code: 1.140.0

  • Docker: 28.5.2

I also sent an email to freeCodeCamp Support about this issue on October 1, 2026, but I have not received a response yet.

Has anyone experienced CodeRoad opening a previously completed workshop when trying to start the next workshop? Any help troubleshooting this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

delete the folder and clone it anew

I’m having the exact same problem. I’ve also tried the above suggested method of deleting the folder and redoing the git-clone but this does not solve the issue. I’ve also tried rebuilding the folder (as well as rebuilding without cache) and this also did not work.

My system information:

  • Windows 11 Home: 25H2
  • VS Code: 1.140.0
  • Docker: 29.8.1

Okay @Nicholas1 I got it to finally reset. Here is what I had to do:

  1. Delete the current local repo for the rdb-alpha completely
  2. Open docker desktop, and delete any relevant containers to the previous project (in my case there weren’t any).
  3. Still in docker desktop, go to the ‘volumes’ tab and completely remove any .vscode volumes there.
  4. Redo the git-clone, with an additional argument at the end for a different local name like: git clone https://github.com/freeCodeCamp/rdb-alpha rdb-project-two
  5. Follow the usual steps, cd into the local repo, use code Dockerfile, ensure the user token is pasted in.
  6. On my machine I no longer have the “Rebuild and Reload” option under “Dev Containers” in the command palette. Instead, I had to manually select the folder using the Open folder in container... option. This brings up an explorer window, and from there, select the project directory, wherever you created it locally using the git clone.
  7. After the container loaded, then use the Command Palette → CodeRoad: Start option, and start the new project as you normally would by using the URL option and pasting it in.

Hope this helps you, if you haven’t solved it on your own already.

It worked! Thank you so much!
