I am an ordinary worker hoping to switch to front-end development. As far as I know, AI capabilities are already very powerful; for ordinary people who want to work in front-end development, is it still necessary to learn from scratch? Lately, I have been very confused about this as well.
you need to learn so that you can understand code that the LLM/AI makes. Otherwise, you won’t be able to fix it if it has mistakes. Also you need to learn so you can get hired. As people won’t hire you if you only know how to talk to an AI and nothing else.
You can check for code quality but ai cannot. QA is so important.

AI is a tool.
You are the craftsperson.
As a front-end developer you need to learn how to use various tools, their capabilities and limits, when to use one over another, and when not to use certain tools, approaches, and methodologies.
AI has limits, but it also has some good use cases.
Learn the basics, gain foundational knowledge and skills. Also, to effectively write a prompt, you’ll need to ask detailed questions, or you risk getting back slop.
Happy coding
We made AIs
We made Computers
We made the internet
Of course we should still learn the traditional way
If you’re an ordinary worker willing to put in consistent effort, front-end development is still one of the more accessible tech fields to break into. AI is changing the industry, but it’s not shutting the door — it’s just raising the bar. The people who will struggle are those who try to skip learning the fundamentals entirely.
