Hey there, do you necessarily require ‘talent’ to get into FAANG?
Can you become a great programmer just with experience/hard work/passion or you require a very high IQ or natural/genetic predisposition?
I started programming in freeCodeCamp since less than a month and I think I am grasping concepts pretty quickly. I don’t need more than 120-150 hours to get a certification but when I watch a google interview in youtube I feel discouraged cause it looks scary.
There are people in YT who affirm to have worked for Google or Amazon in just 6 months! I mean that’s insane, I feel like it’s very unrealistic for the average person.
What average programmers lack to get into FAANG? Do they lack problem solving skills, IQ, experience, all of those?
Are there average inteligent people who work for FAANG or other big companies like Nintendo/Blizzard or you must be a genius?
FAANG is just regular companies. They have really good marketing and lots of programmers, but you aren’t more or less of a programmer for getting a FAANG job or not.
Don’t believe everything you watch on YouTube. People exaggerate or leave out information. After all, they are trying to get you to watch their videos. What better way than to promise that you too can get a job as a developer for a big company in just six months with no prior experience.
If you are truly just starting out and have no experience then be realistic in your goals. Your first job is probably not going to be making six figures at a huge tech company. That doesn’t mean you can’t get there. But like most of us you’ll have to work your way up the ladder.
And as @JeremyLT said, not working at one of these companies does not make you any less of a programmer. A lot of us don’t want to work at one of those companies no matter how much more money we could make.
