Different IP in the settings of my free code camp account

Hey. When I go to my settings in my free code camp account I can see that I am using my computer from Germany which is not true. I am in a different country. I logged out and changed my password and even switched browsers and internet but with the same result. Does anybody knows what seems to be the problem?

Just to rule out the worst, you should check your recent login activity in your email because maybe a site you once used was involved in a data breach and since most people reuse passwords its possible (though unlikely) its a bot just trying your email and password on every site.

On gmail its here
https://myaccount.google.com/security-checkup

and outlook
https://account.live.com/Activity

Otherwise it may be a freecodecamp glitch?

I have the same thing. I’m in the US, but it shows I’m in a different state far away from where I really am.

At first I was alarmed like you. But I remembered a map I saw years ago about how internet data flows around the world. And it can take really long/weird routes and go to servers that you wouldn’t expect. So I chalked it up to that. But I have no real knowledge of this, so don’t listen to me. I’d like to hear from someone in charge of this site.

Thank you for helping make FCC better. Bugs can be reported as GitHub Issues. Whenever reporting a bug, please check first that there isn’t already an issue for it and provide as much detail as possible.

This is a known issue for now. We have recently made a lot of infrastructure changes and your IP is masked behind our CDN servers.

You are probably seeing the closest one you are connected to. This will be resolved in upcoming days.

However, if you prefer you can always change your password for your account.
