Do I need gitHub

I am new to coding, albeit I have taken classes with Code First Girls but I am new to it all. Do I need Github? I understand it will help me to build a portfolio, which could help later on for jobs? Or is this part of the curriculum already ?

you don’t need github to start, if you follow the full stack curriculum, you will learn at one point
