Hello I have an idea of a project to build and I would really like to make it open source becasue of the many advantages one can get including leveraging coding help from better and more experienced programmers. But I just want to know can you charge a fee for those using the app/project since it is open source?

How can one earn money from open source projects?

Thanks!

Hi there,

A good example of an Open-Source project, that is also commercial, is Qt. The idea is something like this. If you keep the code of your project Open-Source (under GPL or/and LGPLv3 license), then you do not need to pay for a commercial license otherwise you do need to pay.

Hello Lawrence, I wrote a post about that https://medium.com/@Cuadraman/why-open-source-software-is-not-free-c9bf89826610#.ngaj0b9ll
