Has anyone gotten a front end web dev job from just the freecodecamps front end HTML CSS certificate projects?

Has anyone gotten a front end web dev job with a portfolio that just had the basic HTML / CSS projects from FCC? (Product landing page, tech doc page, survey form, tribute page, etc.)

Odds are the only ones that have gotten a job from just these 2 technologies meets one or many of the following:

  • knows someone
  • has a relevant background
  • is extremely good with these technologies
  • is working as a designer

The overall issue with just HTML and CSS is that these technologies by themselves are easily managed by application such as Wix, Squarespace, Wordpress, etc.

Its hard to find work of any kind when the average business person can pay 5$ a month for a site and drag and drop what they need into a well designed template. They could also pay someone to do this for them, but paying someone to do this from scratch doesn’t fit the bill most of the time.

There are some people out there who would pay for that sort of service, but they are few and far between.

Its only when you start looking into making things more complex, or more specific to specific use-cases do you start going from “build be a static website” to “build me a web-app to do ___”.

Again, there are always exceptions. You could be painting the Mona Lisa in CSS, which is very impressive, and help design excellent looking designs, but making them “do something” is where most of the jobs are, and where more skills are required.

Good luck, keep learning, keep building :+1:
