First of all, it seems odd to me to wrap a list in a p element - semantically that just seems weird - “p” stands for paragraph.

But I would suggest doing a little side project to explore grid and see if you can define different areas. Get rid of everything that isn’t related to that. Give each section a different background color so you can see them and maybe put a little dummy text in there. Build that skeleton and then you can add in what you need.

An important skill is being able to break big problems into smaller ones. I do this all the time.
