How big of a problem do you think micromanagement is compared to other professions?

To software engineers who are already hired , how often do micromanagement issues come up at your job? It seems like the more skilled you are , the less micromanagement becomes an issue it seems to be the general case.

It’s as much a mix as anywhere else. There are great people and there are total tools.

I’d say it’s a slightly bigger problem in tech, since a lot of managers have been promoted up from the ranks and are still trying to write the code themselves. Beginners do need to be shown the ropes of course, so one person’s mentoring is another’s micromanagement. Pushing back politely and professionally is the answer there; as always, communication skills are paramount.
