How can i exercise the things i learned so far?

İm currently halfway trough the applied visual design but im afraid the things ive done so far wont ‘stick’ and ill slowly forget them plus trying to recreate some of the exampls shows in the curriculum such as that google checkbox seems impossible without having the tutorial hold my hand. Any tips ? What program could i download to use HTML does wordpad work ?
