How do I add a large rectangle to my portfolio?

I’m on the second project where you have to create your own portfolio, and I have a general idea of what I want to do with my page in my mind. My problem is I’m not sure what to look up to make it happen. How would I go about adding a large white vertical rectangle with my background color still intact?

I want this rectangle to be large enough to hold my portfolio placeholders and info about me as a designer.

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi there! I just looked at what you’ve got so far, and here is what I would do:

I would define the width of your rectangle as a percentage, like {width: 80%;}. That way it will adjust to different screen sizes. I would use min-height rather than height, so that your rectangle will expand as you add content to it. And you can center it using {margin: 0 auto;}. I hope that is what you were looking for…
