How do I use code like python or js to change the file's domain

I’ve been at this domain thing for weeks trying to figure out how to even interact with the URL outside of just changing the page I’m on. I’ll be honest with you it just left me confused so I’m wondering if there is anyone who can help. I am questioning how people managed to make sites without using a premade cms.
