How to add a favicon to a webpage

I’ve been trying to add a favicon to this web page but it isn’t going. All the favicon generators I see recommend uploading it from a file but can’t I use the URL of another image rather than putting it in a file? Another thing. How can I put it in a file. The pic of the favicon says favicon.ico doesn’t support this format. I don’t understand. Pls, any help? Will really appreciate
