I'm trying to insert an image to my HTML in CodePen, but it is not working

I’m not sure whether the problem is in the order, or with the URL I’ve inserted. BTW, I tried different URLs but most of which did not work.

Any suggestions?

I think you are trying to link the whole page containing the image rather than the image itself:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:James_B._Donovan.jpg

You should instead click on the photo or right click it and copy its url. Then you get this:
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/bb/James_B._Donovan.jpg

Try with that.
