Integrating Chat bots

Hello. I need help in understanding Chat Bots. I am a Developer working on a website that is run on PHP. we are considering developing an Interactive chatBot that can take and show info from out DB. Can we develop the Chatbot in a different stack than what our website is based on? if so, how? please help. thank you!
