Is it neccesary to learn networking for Database-related projects/jobs?

First time posting here.

I’ve started to learn SQL in my university a month ago (Software Developer) and I’m having fun learning it so far. The problem is that, for setting up databases, you need to have a knowledge in networking and I’m… not too good at it, specifically with CISCO.

I want to know if I should start sharpening up my skills with CISCO by taking some tutoring in my university if its almost vital for database jobs or if it’s not too necessary and it’s optional if I want to.

I do recommend taking at least one networking class at your university. I wouldn’t say that the average developer needs to have particularly deep knowledge of networking as pertains to database admin. If you have a strong grasp of how to design and manage networks, you can pick up the specific tools you need as you go.
