not sure what im doing wrong i keep getting add the event listener to the next button element but im pretty sure i did that on line 157

You should call the addEventListener() method on your nextButton variable.

You have a typo in your code.

i cant seem to find a typo unless im wrong about how to call an add event listener method

never mind i found it the parentheses was out of place thanks for the advice
