I have tried to nest 5 i elements into the existing a elements in the only space it seemed to me that the would fit, but the error is that I need to have 5 i elements…

You’re basically correct but most of your opening anchor (a) tags are missing an angle bracket (>).

I thought that the angle bracket comes after the href though? Are there times when it doesn’t?

Yes, there should be a closing angle bracket at the end of this line for instance.
