Hey there! I was trying back and forth with this but it wont work.
This is my code:
.bb1d {
width: 100%;
height: 70%;
background-color: var(–building-color1);
background: linear-gradient (
orange, var(–building-color1), var(–window-color1)
);
}
I declared the variables in :root and this worked. I get this error message whatever I do:
You should use the background
on .bb1d
.
Please help me! Kind regards, Carolin

I think your issue in typing

it should be –

Thanks for you answer. Sadly its not the problem. I declared them in :root with double-- and even if I try your solution it won’t work

can you share your whole code
:root {
--building-color1: #aa80ff;
--building-color2: #66cc99;
--building-color3: #cc6699;
--building-color4: #538cc6;
--window-color1: black;
}
* {
border: 1px solid black;
box-sizing: border-box;
}
body {
height: 100vh;
margin: 0;
overflow: hidden;
}
.background-buildings, .foreground-buildings {
width: 100%;
height: 100%;
display: flex;
align-items: flex-end;
justify-content: space-evenly;
position: absolute;
top: 0;
}
/* BACKGROUND BUILDINGS - "bb" stands for "background building" */
.bb1 {
width: 10%;
height: 70%;
display: flex;
flex-direction: column;
align-items: center;
}
.bb1a {

.bb1b {
width: 80%;

.bb1c {

.bb1d {

}
.bb4 {

/* FOREGROUND BUILDINGS - "fb" stands for "foreground building" */
.fb1 {

background-color: var(--building-color4);
}
.fb2 {

.fb6 {

I don’t know why but the double – in :root are gone while copy & paste here. But they are there
I’ve edited your code for readability. When you enter a code block into a forum post, please precede it with a separate line of three backticks and follow it with a separate line of three backticks to make it easier to read.
You can also use the “preformatted text” tool in the editor (</>
) to add backticks around text.
See this post to find the backtick on your keyboard.
Note: Backticks (`) are not single quotes (').
Please post a link to the challenge

Your code should be in formatted.
example;
h1{
background: linear-gradient (
green,
var(--building-color2),
var(--window-color50)
);
}
}
Thank you so much! Wasn’t aware of that, Im sorry
I tried it but it won’t work sadly

When I copy and paste this code the challenge passes for me
You can try forcing a refresh (ctrl+ f5)
Make sure you dont have any browser extensions enabled when you submit the challenge
submit the challenge in a different browser
I have no clue why but I copied my code snippet from above in again (same browser) and put a , in (after --window-color1))and then clicked ‘submit’ → it doesn’t work BUT when I removed it and clicked ‘submit’ again IT WORKED. I have no clue why but it’s done. Thank you all!
