im very confused on how to add the anchor in properly

Ok I’d reset your code and start over on this step. Adding an anchor is done like so:

<p>I am an <a href="example.com">example</a></p>

Notice that all I did was wrap, also known as nesting, the word example. This will turn “example” and only “example” into a clickable link.
