set each checkbox’s value attribute to the same value as its id attribute.

put thet inside of the input type checkbox.

I think you have some misplaced Angle brackets try this

<input type="checkbox" name="#" value="#" />

Remember inputs are self closing tags so anything outside the closing angle brackets will be considered to be outside the input
