Tell us what’s happening:
I am having problems creating 2 div elements within my #black-mask element.

  **Your code so far**
/* file: index.html */

  <title>Picasso Painting</title>

<body>
  <div id="back-wall"></div>
  <div class="characters">
    <div id="offwhite-character">
      <div id="white-hat"></div>
      <div id="black-mask">
<div classes="eyes left" />
<div classes="eyes right"/>
</div>
      </div>
      <div id="gray-instrument"></div>
      <div id="tan-table"></div>
    </div>
  </div>
</body>
</html>
/* file: styles.css */
body {
background-color: rgb(184, 132, 46);
}

#back-wall {
background-color: #8B4513;
width: 100%;
height: 60%;
position: absolute;
top: 0;
left: 0;
z-index: -1;

nice try!
You will need to make some corrections to pass this exercise though.
1- use the attribute ‘class’ not ‘classes’ in the div elements you added
2- make sure each div element has a starting tag and a separate ending tag similar to this:
<div></div>
hope this helps
