Learn Introductory JavaScript by Building a Pyramid Generator - Step 68

Tell us what’s happening:

I don’t understand what is meant by this step, if possible, give me a comparison of which code is wrong and where to change it. otherwise I don’t understand

Your code so far

const character = "#";
const count = 8;
const rows = [];

// User Editable Region

function padRow(rowNumber, rowCount) {
  return " " character " ".repeat(rowNumber);
}

// User Editable Region

for (let i = 0; i < count; i = i + 1) {
  rows.push(padRow(i + 1, count));
}

let result = ""

for (const row of rows) {
  result = result + row + "\n";
}

console.log(result);

This is the line of code which you start with:

return character.repeat(rowNumber);

You should:

Use the addition operator to concatenate a single space " " to the beginning and end of your repeated character string.

You haven’t used the addition operator in this line:

Also, the second space should come after the repeated character string, not in the middle of it.

like this : return “” + “character.repeat(rowNumber);” + “” :thinking:

You shouldn’t add quote marks around character.repeat(rowNumber), as it’s an expression, not a string.

EXAMPLE:

let name = "igor";

console.log("Hi " + name + ", it's nice to meet you.");
// Hi igor, it's nice to meet you.

You need to concatenate a space at the beginning and end of:

return " character.repeat(rowNumber); " ? please type the correct code,i don’t understand

I can’t do that; we have organizational policies that govern us. Mine is to guide you to the correct answer. A space is quoted with an actual space, this " ". We use the additional operator + to concatenate strings to existing strings. Now, concatenate an empty string at the beginning and end of the code I had earlier quoted.

return “” + “character.repeat(rowNumber);” :thinking:

You’re almost there. The addition operator needs to come after the space, it should not be inside.

return “” “character.repeat(rowNumber);” + :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Follow this example.

" " + text + " "

" " + character.repeat(rowNumber); + " " :thinking:

Now add spaces inside the quotation marks.

" " + character.repeat(rowNumber); + " " , I’ve pressed the space bar inside the quotes and nothing happens🤔

remove the semi-colon that comes after the closing round bracket.
