Learn Lambda Functions by Building an Expense Tracker - Step 37

Tell us what’s happening:

I’m getting the error: You should have elif choice == ‘4’: in your code. However, if you look at my code, I have added the elif statement. I even copied the working elif choice == ‘3’: and changed just the number to 4 and still getting an error. What’s missing?
Thank you!

Your code so far

def add_expense(expenses, amount, category):
    expenses.append({'amount': amount, 'category': category})

def print_expenses(expenses):
    for expense in expenses:
        print(f'Amount: {expense["amount"]}, Category: {expense["category"]}')

def total_expenses(expenses):
    return sum(map(lambda expense: expense['amount'], expenses))

def filter_expenses_by_category(expenses, category):
    return filter(lambda expense: expense['category'] == category, expenses)

def main():
    expenses = []
    while True:
        print('\nExpense Tracker')
        print('1. Add an expense')
        print('2. List all expenses')
        print('3. Show total expenses')
        print('4. Filter expenses by category')
        print('5. Exit')

        choice = input('Enter your choice: ')

        if choice == '1':
            amount = float(input('Enter amount: '))
            category = input('Enter category: ')
            add_expense(expenses, amount, category)

        elif choice == '2':
            print('\nAll Expenses:')
            print_expenses(expenses)

/* User Editable Region */

        elif choice == '3':
            print('\nTotal Expenses: ', total_expenses(expenses)

         elif choice == '4':
            category = input('Enter category to filter: ')

/* User Editable Region */

Your spacing must exactly line up

It does.

        elif choice == '3':
            print('\nTotal Expenses: ', total_expenses(expenses)

        elif choice == '4':
            category = input('Enter category to filter: ')

It doesn’t line up here

I cleared out all the spaces and reformatted…still not working. You’ll see it’s aligned.

        elif choice == '3':
            print('\nTotal Expenses: ', total_expenses(expenses)

        elif choice == '4':
            category = input('Enter category to filter: ')

What’s the current error displayed?

If I look in Console I see the below. Note that I even copied both of those lines from the tests exactly.

// running tests
You should have elif choice == '4': in your code.
You should have category = input('Enter category to filter: ') in your new elif statement.
// tests completed

Id make sure you didn’t disrupt any other code
