Learn Recursion by Building a Decimal to Binary Converter - Step 19

Tell us what’s happening:

Unable to convert a binary number into a string, any help would be appreciated.

I figured out that converting the input to a string will create the binary number. I even set it as the innerHTML for result and it displayed the decimal on the page. The problem is, I am unable to figure out how to return a string.

I have already tried using toString with no parameters, as toString with parameters converted the number to a binary. I even tried using return and backticks to create a text field and then inputted the variable for input.toString(2). nothing is working that I am aware of. Any help would be appreciated

Learn Recursion by Building a Decimal to Binary Converter - Step 19

Hi @derekbwhite80

You nested the function in a function.

Happy coding

I apologize. That was my mistake. I grabbed the code directly from VSCode and copied it over including the decimalToBinary function.

This is the code I am having issues with:
return input.toString(2).padStart(4, “”);

I am unsure how to convert to a string, as freeCodeCamp is not viewing it as correct. It is either that or something else that I have missed. I have attempted the padStart using just the 4 for maximum string length. I have also created variables and added in toString() with no parameters and still it is failing.

For this step, you don’t need to figure out how to code the output.
Manually lookup the value from the table and return that value.

Wow, I am trying to code everything and just needed to do that. Thanks, finished it.
