Learn Regular Expressions by Building a Password Generator - Step 36

Tell us what’s happening:

I understand that the output should be: Any letter t that has a lowercase letter a-z before it should be printed in the console basically. What I have right now prints everything before the t that has a letter from a-z but it also takes the uppercase N of “Not”. And I can’t figure out how to modify it correctly.

Your code so far

import re
import secrets
import string

def generate_password(length, nums, special_chars, uppercase, lowercase):
    # Define the possible characters for the password
    letters = string.ascii_letters
    digits = string.digits
    symbols = string.punctuation

    # Combine all characters
    all_characters = letters + digits + symbols

    while True:
        password = ''
        # Generate password
        for _ in range(length):
            password += secrets.choice(all_characters)

        constraints = [
            (nums, '[0123456789]')
        ]

    return password

# new_password = generate_password(8)
# print(new_password)

pattern = '[a-z][t]'
quote = 'Not all those who wander are lost.'
print(re.findall(pattern, quote))

the t as it is a single character doesn’t need to go in a character class

I do not see it taking the N, can you share what you see in the terminal?

Sorry, I was phrasing it wrong; the N does not get printed out, but the O does. Everything is working correctly now. Thanks for the help :slight_smile:
