Learn String Manipulation by Building a Cipher - Step 26

Tell us what’s happening:

I am stuck on step 26, i have tried assigning the new variable named index at the beginning of the for loop but my code does not pass. see code below:

for char in text:
index =  alphabet.find(char)
print(char)

Your code so far

text = 'Hello World'
shift = 3

# User Editable Region

alphabet = 'abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz'
for char in text:
index = alphabet.find(char)
print(char)

# User Editable Region

Why did you remove the indentation here?

When you see a traceback in the terminal try to understand what it means. In your case:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File “main.py”, line 8
index = alphabet.find(char)
^^^^^
IndentationError: expected an indented block after ‘for’ statement on line 7

is a clear indication that the indentation is not correct on line 7

#This worked for me :slight_smile:

Hi, welcome to the forum :wave:

It is great that you solved the challenge, but instead of posting your full working solution, it is best to stay focused on answering the original poster’s question(s) and help guide them with hints and suggestions to solve their own issues with the challenge.

We are trying to cut back on the number of spoiler solutions found on the forum and instead focus on helping other campers with their questions and definitely not posting full working solutions.
