I’m having trouble figuring out how to write a new variable before my for loop function and I need to assign a returned value from or with a different variabe. Can someone help?

You cannot use a = without something on each side. Also, this variable in not inside you for loop.

Also, your use of whitespaces here was changed and is now invalid Python syntax
