Learn String Manipulation by Building a Cipher - Step 37

Tell us what’s happening:

The instructions ask to replace new_char with encrypted_text and update the print() statement to print(‘char:’, char, ‘encrypted text:’, encrypted_text) accordingly. I believe I made these changes, but my code still fails, and I’m confused about the issue. Could you help identify my mistake?

Your code so far

# User Editable Region

text = 'Hello World'
shift = 3
alphabet = 'abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz'
encrypted_text = ''

for char in text.lower():
    index = alphabet.find(char)
    new_index = index + shift
    encrypted_text += alphabet[new_index]
    print('char:', char, 'encrypted text:', encrypted_text)
