Learn String Manipulation by Building a Cipher - Step 49

Tell us what’s happening:

I keep getting an indentation error, I don’t know how to solve this or what it means. Also could someone explain what ‘char’ means in this setting I’m a bit lost
Thank you

Your code so far

text = 'Hello Zaira'
shift = 3
def caesar():
    alphabet = 'abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz'
    encrypted_text = ''

    for char in text.lower():
        if char == ' ':
            encrypted_text += char
         else:
            index = alphabet.find(char)
            new_index = (index + shift) % len(alphabet)
            encrypted_text += alphabet[new_index]
print('plain text:', text)
print('encrypted text:', encrypted_text)

the indentation error is because the if and else should be indented equally, but they aren’t in your code

char is the loop variable, it’s each character in text
