Your code so far i have tried indenting and not indenting def after shift 3 but its still says either way that the program is wrong im very confused about what im doing wrong.

            encrypted_text += char

            encrypted_text += alphabet[new_index]        
            print('plain text:', text)
            print('encrypted text:', encrypted_text)

You indented the two print calls too much.
Remove eight spaces from each.
