Hey, the line before doing this step is like this

new_index =(index + offset) % len(alphabet)

And then it says:

All you need to do is multiply the offset by the direction in the new_index assignment. The multiplication operator in Python is *.

It indicates that the offset already present in the line should be multiplied by the direction

In the end what you need to do is this:

new_index =(index + offset * direction) % len(alphabet)
