"Map the Debris" - why on Earth?

I’m happy to not agree with you too. Three professional developers think that this is a representative problem for actual workflow that real developers use, so maybe we might be right? :man_shrugging:

For me, this is a question of the learning process. And as a teacher, I can say that this challenge is a bad one.
If one is a good coder doesn’t mean automatically that this one is a good teacher.

As a fellow teacher, I can say that this challenge is a good one :upside_down_face:

Being a teacher doesn’t automatically make you an expert on what you need to know to be successful in a new discipline!

I think you omitted this step and went directly to “I’ll just copy the answer”, which really hurts the learning opportunity present in this challenge.

I’ve been a teacher a lot longer than I’ve been a coder. I pride myself on it.

As a teacher, I often had students complain about having to learn things they thought they didn’t need to know. They lacked the experience and perspective to understand. And here you (an inexperienced coder) are arguing with three experienced coders telling you that everything you need to solve the problem is provided and mental manipulation you need to connect the information provided and a solution is not accidental, it is intentional, because that is part of being a programmer.

But as pointed out, you can skip all the challenges and just go to the projects. The challenges are just there to help you learn.

If you feel that this is a bad exercise, then start a discussion in the appropriate place. But you may want to wait until you have some experience and perspective. I don’t know what you teach, but you don’t let the first-month piano students design their learning program. Remember that this curriculum was designed by teams of experienced developers, all of whom have experience coding, and were once learners themselves.

And if you really feel you’ve been cheated, please talk to Cyril in accounting and he’ll get you a full refund.
