My personal website (not a FCC project)

Hey guys, I wasn’t planning to post here but your opinion on my website would be really valuable.

I am not exactly new to development but due to certain obligations and some personal matters, I am only starting to job hunt now and this website is my book cover.

This is the link: iopsychas.me

Thanks in advance to whoever bothers.

Hello there!

I only had a brief read through and I think it looks great. Just a couple of (mostly subjective) comments:

  • In the experience part, I feel that the colours don’t quite “pop”. It’s possible that adding gradient (like those in some of your projects) and/or box shadow to the rectangles would give them more depth
  • I’m not sure if there is any point in listing things that you have less experience with—although the gradient of proficiency would become much shallower if you remove them and I’m not sure what’s the best way to go about it if you do choose to remove the ones at the bottom :stuck_out_tongue:
  • Perhaps start .Experience on a new line so that it’s consistent with .Things I love
  • The colours in your Simon Game really don’t fit with the rest of the page, consider using a different pallet, perhaps pastel?
  • Some of the longer titles under the Showroom section seem to be affected by overflow: hidden on smaller screens
  • The larger sizes of the Game of Life project don’t seem to work

I hope that helps! Good luck!

I didn’t expect someone would get into so much detail. I am thankful you did though! Let’s go through your points.

  • I love shadows but I went with a flatter design in the page, so I don’t know if it quite fits. Maybe something discreet would work out. Just for clarification, are you talking about the container boxes or the coloured ones?

  • The technologies on the bottom are supposed to be the ones I am familiar with but in a basic level. Does it come out as if I know nothing about those?

  • You’re right about the subheader, I was debating on that myself. I’m gonna change it

  • Do you mean they don’t fit with the portfolio colors or the colors of the project with eachother? If I said I focused on the layout of this project, I’d be lying

  • I suppose you mean the text hiding behind the projects when wrapped. I’ll fix that!

  • I’ll have to get back to this. It was kind of struggling with performance on the larger board but I was sure I left in a working condition.

I appreciate the time you spent on this. Thank you very much again.

No worries, and thank you very much for sharing! Please don’t forget that those are just subjective opinions, too, so if it doesn’t fit with how you wanted things to be, do feel free to ignore them!

I was referring to the coloured boxes. There is nothing wrong with them the way it is now, I still think a subtle gradient may work better. I’m not exactly how to articulate how I feel when I saw them—but if I were to try, I think it would be that they are currently “slightly too flat”. I actually had another look at them just now, perhaps making the bounding boxes a shade darker may help!

The technologies on the bottom are supposed to be the ones I am familiar with but in a basic level. Does it come out as if I know nothing about those?

Oh, absolutely not! I know exactly why they are there (and I probably would consider something similar, too, if I were you)—it is partly the tallness of the table that lead me to giving that comment in the end. I think someone who has experience hiring will likely give you a much better opinion on how best to structure it!

You’re right about the subheader, I was debating on that myself. I’m gonna change it

Okay!

Yup! They just don’t fit with the colour of your portfolio, which (I think) is mostly a more subtle, elegant kind of theme. Perhaps try the muted palette here (it’s complete coincidence that the article is also about flat design! I only googled for “muted RGBY palette”):

I suppose you mean the text hiding behind the projects when wrapped. I’ll fix that!

Yup!

I’ll have to get back to this. It was kind of struggling with performance on the larger board but I was sure I left in a working condition.

No worries! I sampled a few projects and that was the first one I clicked on because that’s one my favourite projects on fCC!

I appreciate the time you spent on this. Thank you very much again.
You are welcome! Good luck!

Ah man you are amazing  You keep going at it. Thaks a bunch, again.

The alternative though I had about the experience section was to remove the scale borders completely and just leave the colored boxes there, but that make it even more ‘skinny’ looking.

I’ll look into adjusting the colors of the Simon Game. I am doing little tweaks every day in the website for such things.

Happy coding!
