many open source projects have a tag specifically to identify issues that can be tackled by beginners, you can check if an open source you like needs anything done that can be completed by a beginner.

yes, it seems so, but it was just an example

open source projects usually have a label for really easy changes
it doesn’t mean you will for sure find something open labelled like that
you will need to do a bit of research
