Please review my portfolio

Hello everyone,
Can you please review my portfolio and give me an honest feed back. Please look at all pages and check the projects links.

Thank you in advance

hello :waving_hand:

it looks nice, very straight forward and everything is right there, good job

about your reTask project maybe you want to consider having some examples, info, pictures, etc of what this project does and all, that way it becomes more obvious about its overall processes.

happy coding

Hi,

I’d like to give some feedback on design and layout.

Initial layout with welcome and projects is a little confusing for the eye, not sure where to go and keep bouncing between them. I would suggest removing the projects menu and moving the welcome text into the center. When I arrive at the site I will read this quick blurb, which is well written, and I will immediately get solid info.

If I want to see projects I will click the projects link at the top.

The white space at the sides is too bright. It’s like dark mode in the middle and light mode on the sides. It made me think something wasn’t loading correctly. I would stick with the same or darker color as the rest.

Menu at the top is nice except you have this double-menu effect with the social links right below it. It’s two menus close together but they aren’t related or aligned. I suggest moving the social contacts down to one of the lower corners.

I would also consider removing the Home button. I think it’s intuitive that your name already links to the main page, this is a familiar standard, and now you have 2 home buttons which isn’t necessary.

Projects screen is nice, basically no notes, but consider:

  • Could remove “My Projects” and highlight the “Projects” link in the menu to indicate where you are.
  • The tech stack bubbles look like little buttons and it makes me want to click them. I would consider making that text like “React” etc, not selectable to make them more like badges.
  • Could also consider making those filter buttons to filter projects by tech so I can see only the Python projects or only the React projects but there’s not that many projects that you’d need to filter them. Could be fun though.

Oops when I scroll down I see you have sneaky social links down here! I thought the website ended at the white space. Is it possible to make those sticky on the bottom? Or just move them up instead of having a big white band separating them.

Also means your social links are duplicated on your front page, it’s just hard to see them at the bottom. I didn’t even notice them. This means your copyright is also duplicated.

What is moustafaragheb.dev? .dev is a top level domain so it makes me think it’s a website, but it’s not this website which is a bit confusing. It also doesn’t seem to be website at all.

The text on the “About Me” is a bit repetitive. It rephrases your Welcome blurb and I’ve already seen your projects and tech stack, don’t really need to hear more about that. The rest is probably generic that won’t be that much more different from other dev portfolios. The projects also will speak for themselves to a degree.

“When I’m not coding, I’m usually running my restaurant” Whoa, what! That’s very interesting and more unique, please tell me more about this. I assume this is related to your restaurant app. Maybe you can speak a bit more about that story, how you saw a problem and worked to fix it, how it’s improved the restaurant operation. That’s a unique and compelling story.

ReTaskMan: Same comment as @bappyasif Maybe it could have a “guest” account so someone reviewing your portfolio can see a populated and functional app.

Sorry that was a lot! Just my 2 cents as I was looking over from a user perspective. I hope some of that is helpful. Good start, I think you can polish this to perfection.

@MouRagheb Moving these up in here would make a bit more sense to me, they wouldn’t get lost as easily.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review and give this rich feedback! I am very glad that you took from your time to lookup and detect my portfolio carefully, and I will definitely consider changing all the none sense in the design.
Thank you again :folded_hands::folded_hands::folded_hands:

Thank you so much for the feedback and definitely I need some sort of explanation for how to use Retaskman! It will be interesting to many people to try it!

Hello
To repeat my reply from the archived topic:

Your AWS Redshift pipelines are classes above the old projects, well chosen.

Consider adding architectural diagrams showing the data flow like I suggested. They are more likely to be checked and make an impression than a GitHub repo.

Best Regards

Hello Daniel,
Thank you so much for reaching out and the feed back. I clicked on the link you attached to see how to do the architecture diagram, and it was very useful. I will definitely look into that and do it. It will really make a huge difference in my portfolio. Thank you again :folded_hands::folded_hands:
