I’d suggest download the original image from pexels, resize it down using a graphic editor (gimp, photoshop) to say 1920px wide, and resave it at higher compression setting.
Then upload it to an image hosting site like imgbb.com and use the optimized/smaller version for your site.
I was able to bring it down from 4.5MB to 150K easily.
