PSA

Equifax, a major US reporting credit bureau, has announced a cyber security breach that potentially impacts approximately 143 million US consumers. The information involved in the breach primarily includes Social Security Numbers (SSN), birth dates, addresses, and driver’s license numbers. Additionally, credit card numbers and dispute documents that contained PII were impacted for a smaller group of consumers. The unauthorized access was discovered by Equifax on July 29, 2017 and Equifax has hired an independent security firm to complete a forensic review to determine the scope of the intrusion.

Equifax has setup a website to check if you were potentially impacted, here. To complete the check, you will need to follow the following steps.

  1. Click the button “Check Potential Impact”
  2. Provide your last name, last 6 digits of your SSN and complete the captcha
  3. Click continue

Equifax is also providing complimentary TrustedID Premier credit monitoring to all US consumers for one year. You can sign up after completing the check to determine if you were impacted.

Equifax has setup a dedicated website to disclose the breach and provide additional information to consumers. If you would like to read more about the incident, the website is https://www.equifaxsecurity2017.com/.

Oh wow… Equifax is a freaking sleazeball of ear wax. If you typed your name and SS# to check if you were a victim of their incompetence, you basically agree to this
