Relational Databases course terminal stopped showing outputs

Can anyone help?

When running the Mario Database exercise of the Relational Databases course, the terminal no longer shows any output, so I can’t see the results of the code I’m writing. Pressing ‘Enter’ does nothing so I have to use the Run button to update the tutorial but the actual terminal still does nothing. This is something of a hindrance. Can anyone help? I’d rather not have to quit out and re-do the whole thing again since I’m more than halfway through.

I’m not a developer, so there’s a lot of technical stuff I don’t understand and I can’t for the life of me understand why it would stop working for no reason. I know the code I’m writing is correct because, as I say, the Run button does the check and progresses the course (change homeland to ‘Koopa Kingdom’ & reorder the table). It just means I’m flying a bit blind.

I won’t copy all of the code below, but you can see the last several lines. The problem began on the line reading:
UPDATE characters SET homeland=‘Koopa Kingdom’ WHERE name=Bowser’;

Clearly I missed a ’ which caused the next few entries to error (rows began with “mario_database’>” instead of “mario_database=>”) but then I cancelled the action so it should have begun working again and hasn’t. Now, it’s showing “mario_database=>” but still doesn’t show me any kind of output.

Your code so far

mario_database=> SELECT * FROM characters;
mario_database=>
+--------------+--------+------------------+----------------+
| character_id |  name  |     homeland     | favorite_color |

|            3 | Peach  | Mushroom Kingdom | Pink           |
|            5 | Bowser | Mushroom Kingdom | Green          |
|            7 | Yoshi  | Dinosaur Land    | Green          |

Welcome to the forum @twig55.ad

The equals sign is missing from the command-line prompt. This means you are entering a multi-line command.

Try to end the last command by entering:

';

Happy coding

Hi there. I did that. That was the point the terminal broke, but later I cancelled the command to get the => back, and it still didn’t show the result of the subsequent commands. If you scroll down in the code, you can see what I’m talking about.

Try pressing the Reset button.

If that doesn’t work, try reconnecting to the database.

Happy coding

Thanks. I was hoping not to lose my progress but it seems it was unavoidable. Oh well.

Hi @twig55.ad

Resetting only restores the current step, not the entire project.

Happy coding
